The foundation of every Fragrance Of Eden perfume. Comprising 70–80% of each formula, our certified organic sugarcane alcohol is derived from organically grown sugarcane — not petroleum, not synthetic ethanol. It is cleaner, purer, and gentler than conventional perfume alcohol, and it carries the botanical ingredients without interfering with their natural character.

Derived from citric acid — a naturally occurring compound found in citrus fruits — triethyl citrate is the fixative that anchors our botanical ingredients to the skin. Without a fixative, even the finest natural fragrance would evaporate within minutes. Triethyl citrate slows that evaporation, allowing the scent to unfold gradually through its top, heart, and base notes over hours of wear.

Steam-distilled or cold-pressed directly from plant material — petals, bark, roots, leaves, and resins — essential oils are the most direct expression of a plant's aromatic identity. We source exclusively from carefully chosen suppliers: small, independent distillers who work close to the source, know their plants intimately, and take pride in the purity of what they produce. Every supplier is vetted for ethical practices, fair treatment of workers, and responsible stewardship of the land.

Where steam distillation cannot capture the full aromatic truth of a flower, we turn to absolutes. Produced through solvent extraction followed by alcohol washing, absolutes preserve the complete aromatic complexity of delicate botanicals — the rich, indolic depth of florals that would be destroyed by heat. Our absolutes come from suppliers chosen with the same rigour as our essential oils: people who understand that the quality of an absolute begins in the field, not the laboratory.

Our tinctures are made entirely in house. We macerate raw botanical materials — resins, woods, dried flowers, and other plant matter — directly in our certified organic sugarcane alcohol over extended periods, drawing out their aromatic compounds slowly and completely. This process allows us to capture nuances that commercial extraction methods miss, and gives us full control over the character and concentration of every tincture we use.

Natural isolates are single aromatic molecules separated from a complex natural material — linalool from lavender, eugenol from clove, geraniol from rose. They are not synthetic: they begin as real plants and are refined through physical or chemical separation to isolate a specific compound. They are particularly important for capturing fruit accords — peach, berry, and other delicate fruits cannot be steam-distilled or cold-pressed, as the heat and pressure destroy their aromatic compounds entirely. Natural isolates allow us to honour those notes truthfully, without resorting to synthetic substitutes. We use them sparingly, and only in service of the overall composition.
